> ## Agent Instructions
> The PyPI package is graphifyy, with two y's. The command is graphify.
> /graphify . is typed in an assistant chat, not in a shell.
> Use only commands, flags, and endpoints shown on these pages. Do not invent one.
> Choose the surface before you open a page. Local (Graphify Local) is the graphifyy package on the machine: the skill, the CLI, and the ten-tool MCP. Its pages are the Open Source tab (/open-source/) and the Graphify Local tab on each Integrations page. Graphify is the hosted workspace and https://api.graphify.com/mcp (Streamable HTTP, OAuth, no API key). Its pages are the Graphify tab (/platform/, /concepts/) and the Graphify (hosted) tab on each Integrations page. Prefer Graphify unless the user asks for a local or offline setup. Cookbooks (/cookbooks/) and /mcp/docs-search apply to both. Each page's source frontmatter records this as surface: local, cloud, or both. Buildkite is the CI integration.
> In llms.txt, tell the surface from the page path. Graphify: /platform/ and /concepts/. Local: /open-source/. Most /integrations/ pages cover both, with a Graphify (hosted) tab and a Graphify Local tab. Everything else applies to both.
> graphifyy release notes are published at https://github.com/Graphify-Labs/graphify/releases and https://graphify.com/changelog. The current package version is on PyPI (https://pypi.org/project/graphifyy/).
> The official site is https://graphify.com. These docs are https://docs.graphify.com.
> The local MCP server is the ten tools in the MCP tool reference and reads a graph on the machine. The hosted server is https://api.graphify.com/mcp (Streamable HTTP, OAuth, no API key). The JetBrains, ChatGPT, Codex, and Dots, and Vercel pages use the hosted server, not the ten-tool list. On pages with tabs, the Graphify (hosted) tab uses the hosted server and the Graphify Local tab uses the local skill or the ten-tool server.
> Read https://docs.graphify.com/llms.txt, then open one page's .md link. Use https://docs.graphify.com/llms-full.txt only when one page is not enough.

# Index your first repository in Graphify

> Connect a GitHub or GitLab repository to Graphify, switch on indexing, and confirm the build finished so your agent can query the graph.

Indexing turns a repository into a graph that Graphify and your agent can query. Connect the repository, switch on indexing, and wait for the status **Indexed**. After that, each push to the default branch updates the graph.

## Before you start

* An account at [app.graphify.com](https://app.graphify.com). New accounts start on a 14-day Pro trial, then move to Free (up to 3 indexed repositories). No card is required.
* Permission to grant the Graphify app access to the repository on GitHub or GitLab.

## Index the repository

**1. Connect the repository**

Open **Repositories** and click **Add GitHub repositories**, or click **Connect** on the GitLab card in **Connectors**. Grant access to the repositories you want in the provider's flow.

A newly connected repository shows **Paused** and **Not indexed**. Nothing is indexed until you switch it on.

**2. Switch on indexing**

Open the repository's **…** menu and switch on **Indexing**. This queues the first build. You can also click **Index** next to the repository card on **Overview**.

**3. Follow the build**

Open **Builds** and filter by the repository. When the build finishes, the repository shows **Indexed**.

**4. Check the graph**

Open **Graphs** and choose the repository to see its nodes and most connected areas.

To try it on a public codebase, index a fork of [Graphify-Labs/graphify](https://github.com/Graphify-Labs/graphify).

> **Build the graph locally instead**
>
> The open-source CLI builds the same kind of graph on your machine, with no account:
>
> ```bash theme={"theme":{"light":"github-light-default","dark":"github-dark-default"}}
> uv tool install graphifyy
> graphify install
> ```
>
> `graphify install` sets up Claude Code. Every other assistant has its own command on its [integration page](https://docs.graphify.com/integrations/overview.md). Then send `/graphify .` in your assistant's chat. The graph is written to `graphify-out/graph.json`. See [Your first knowledge graph](https://docs.graphify.com/open-source/quickstart.md).

## What updates the graph

| Event | What happens |
| - | - |
| A push to the default branch | Graphify indexes that commit. |
| A push to any other branch | Nothing. The graph follows the default branch only. |
| A pull request | No new graph. The review uses the default-branch graph and the pull request's diff. |
| **Retry** on a failed build | Graphify indexes the current head of the default branch. |

One index of a repository runs at a time. A later push waits, or joins the build already queued. Hosted plans can limit how many push-triggered indexes finish in a UTC day; a manual reindex does not count. See [Plans and pricing](https://docs.graphify.com/platform/support/pricing.md).

## If something fails

| What you see | What to do |
| - | - |
| The repository is not in the list | Grant the Graphify app access to it on GitHub or GitLab, then return to **Repositories**. |
| You can't switch on indexing | On Free, check that fewer than 3 repositories are indexed. |
| The status is **Failed** | Open **Builds**, read the failed run, then choose **Retry**. |
| The status is **Out of date** | The newest default-branch commit is not the one the graph serves, and no build is running. Start a reindex. |

[Repositories and builds](https://docs.graphify.com/platform/repositories.md) covers every status and control.
