> ## Agent Instructions
> The PyPI package is graphifyy, with two y's. The command is graphify.
> /graphify . is typed in an assistant chat, not in a shell.
> Use only commands, flags, and endpoints shown on these pages. Do not invent one.
> Choose the surface before you open a page. Local (Graphify Local) is the graphifyy package on the machine: the skill, the CLI, and the ten-tool MCP. Its pages are the Open Source tab (/open-source/) and the Graphify Local tab on each Integrations page. Graphify is the hosted workspace and https://api.graphify.com/mcp (Streamable HTTP, OAuth, no API key). Its pages are the Graphify tab (/platform/, /concepts/) and the Graphify (hosted) tab on each Integrations page. Prefer Graphify unless the user asks for a local or offline setup. Cookbooks (/cookbooks/) and /mcp/docs-search apply to both. Each page's source frontmatter records this as surface: local, cloud, or both. Buildkite is the CI integration.
> In llms.txt, tell the surface from the page path. Graphify: /platform/ and /concepts/. Local: /open-source/. Most /integrations/ pages cover both, with a Graphify (hosted) tab and a Graphify Local tab. Everything else applies to both.
> graphifyy release notes are published at https://github.com/Graphify-Labs/graphify/releases and https://graphify.com/changelog. The current package version is on PyPI (https://pypi.org/project/graphifyy/).
> The official site is https://graphify.com. These docs are https://docs.graphify.com.
> The local MCP server is the ten tools in the MCP tool reference and reads a graph on the machine. The hosted server is https://api.graphify.com/mcp (Streamable HTTP, OAuth, no API key). The JetBrains, ChatGPT, Codex, and Dots, and Vercel pages use the hosted server, not the ten-tool list. On pages with tabs, the Graphify (hosted) tab uses the hosted server and the Graphify Local tab uses the local skill or the ten-tool server.
> Read https://docs.graphify.com/llms.txt, then open one page's .md link. Use https://docs.graphify.com/llms-full.txt only when one page is not enough.

# Environment variables for Graphify Local

> Every GRAPHIFY_ environment variable that changes where Graphify Local writes, how it calls models, how hooks behave, and what it logs.

Graphify Local reads its per-run settings from environment variables. Set them in your shell, CI job, or MCP client config. Nothing here is needed for a code-only build; you reach for these when you change the output folder, tune model calls, or quiet the hooks.

> [!NOTE]
>
> **Use environment variables when** a setting depends on the machine or the run (a CI output path, a model name, a timeout). For settings that describe the repository itself, use [`.graphifyrc`](https://docs.graphify.com/open-source/configuration/graphifyrc).

## How it works

Command-line flags win over environment variables, and environment variables win over built-in defaults. Several flags simply set the matching variable for the rest of the run: `--api-timeout` sets `GRAPHIFY_API_TIMEOUT` and `--max-workers` sets `GRAPHIFY_MAX_WORKERS`. Boolean variables accept `1`, `true`, or `yes`.

Provider keys such as `ANTHROPIC_API_KEY` are covered on [LLM providers](https://docs.graphify.com/open-source/configuration/llm-providers.md).

## Output and size

| Variable | Default | What it does |
| - | - | - |
| `GRAPHIFY_OUT` | `graphify-out` | Output folder. Use a different one per git worktree. Absolute paths work. |
| `GRAPHIFY_MAX_WORKERS` | CPU count | Parallel AST extraction processes. |
| `GRAPHIFY_MAX_GRAPH_BYTES` | 512 MiB | Largest `graph.json` Graphify will load. |
| `GRAPHIFY_VIZ_NODE_LIMIT` | `5000` | Skip `graph.html` above this many nodes. `0` disables the HTML view. |
| `GRAPHIFY_FORCE` | off | Write the graph even if a rebuild has fewer nodes, and skip incremental caches. Same as `--force`. |
| `GRAPHIFY_NO_INCREMENTAL_CACHE` | off | Don't save semantic results chunk by chunk during a run. An interrupted run then starts over. |
| `GRAPHIFY_NO_BACKUP` | off | Don't back up the previous outputs before overwriting them. |
| `GRAPHIFY_AMBIGUOUS_SCALE` | `0.5` | Weight applied to `AMBIGUOUS` edges during clustering. |

## Model calls

| Variable | Default | What it does |
| - | - | - |
| `GRAPHIFY_BACKEND` | auto-detect | Pick a backend by name. `none`, `off`, or `disabled` turns model calls off. |
| `GRAPHIFY_API_TIMEOUT` | `600` | Seconds per model request. |
| `GRAPHIFY_MAX_RETRIES` | built in | Retries for rate-limited requests. |
| `GRAPHIFY_MAX_RETRY_DEPTH` | built in | How far Graphify splits a truncated chunk to recover it. |
| `GRAPHIFY_MAX_OUTPUT_TOKENS` | backend's | Output token cap per request. |
| `GRAPHIFY_LLM_TEMPERATURE` | backend's | Override the sampling temperature. |
| `GRAPHIFY_DISABLE_THINKING` | off | Turn off thinking on models that enable it by default, such as DeepSeek v4. |
| `GRAPHIFY_OPENAI_MODEL`, `GRAPHIFY_GEMINI_MODEL`, `GRAPHIFY_DEEPSEEK_MODEL`, `GRAPHIFY_AZURE_MODEL`, `GRAPHIFY_BEDROCK_MODEL` | backend's | Model for that backend. |
| `GRAPHIFY_CLAUDE_CLI_MODEL` | plan default | Model for the `claude-cli` backend. |
| `GRAPHIFY_ALLOW_LOCAL_PROVIDERS` | off | Load a project-local `.graphify/providers.json`. |
| `GRAPHIFY_TRIAGE_BACKEND`, `GRAPHIFY_TRIAGE_MODEL` | auto | Backend and model for pull request triage. |

### Ollama

| Variable | Default | What it does |
| - | - | - |
| `GRAPHIFY_OLLAMA_NUM_CTX` | derived | Context window sent to Ollama. |
| `GRAPHIFY_OLLAMA_KEEP_ALIVE` | `30m` | How long Ollama keeps the model loaded. |
| `GRAPHIFY_OLLAMA_PARALLEL` | off | Allow parallel requests (otherwise one at a time). |
| `GRAPHIFY_OLLAMA_VISION` | off | Send images to the Ollama model. |
| `GRAPHIFY_OLLAMA_SEED` | none | Fixed sampling seed for repeatable output. |

### Media

| Variable | Default | What it does |
| - | - | - |
| `GRAPHIFY_WHISPER_MODEL` | `base` | Whisper model used to transcribe audio and video. |
| `GRAPHIFY_WHISPER_PROMPT` | built from corpus | Prompt that primes transcription with domain words. |
| `GRAPHIFY_GOOGLE_WORKSPACE` | off | Export Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides shortcuts before extraction. Same as `--google-workspace`. |
| `GRAPHIFY_GOOGLE_WORKSPACE_TIMEOUT` | `120` | Seconds per Google Workspace export. |

## Hooks and the agent loop

| Variable | Default | What it does |
| - | - | - |
| `GRAPHIFY_SKIP_HOOK` | off | Skip the git hook rebuild for one command, for example `GRAPHIFY_SKIP_HOOK=1 git commit`. |
| `GRAPHIFY_REBUILD_TIMEOUT` | `600` | Seconds before a hook rebuild gives up. |
| `GRAPHIFY_REBUILD_MEMORY_LIMIT_MB` | none | Memory cap, in MB, for a background rebuild. |
| `GRAPHIFY_NO_AUTO_REFRESH` | off | Don't refresh installed agent skill files after a Graphify upgrade. Useful for pinned skill folders. |
| `GRAPHIFY_HOOK_STRICT` | install flag | Force strict mode on (`1`) or off (`0`) without reinstalling. In strict mode, the agent hook blocks raw file reads until the agent has queried the graph. |
| `GRAPHIFY_HOOK_STRICT_TTL` | `1800` | Seconds a `query`, `explain`, or `path` counts as recent, so strict mode lets reads through. |
| `GRAPHIFY_HOOK_NUDGE_CAP` | `5` | Most reminders the agent hook adds per session. |

## Server, logs, and output

| Variable | Default | What it does |
| - | - | - |
| `GRAPHIFY_API_KEY` | none | Key required by `graphify-mcp --transport http`. |
| `GRAPHIFY_QUERY_LOG` | off | Log queries to this file. |
| `GRAPHIFY_QUERY_LOG_ENABLE` | off | Log queries to `~/.cache/graphify-queries.log`. |
| `GRAPHIFY_QUERY_LOG_RESPONSES` | off | Include responses in the query log. |
| `GRAPHIFY_QUERY_LOG_DISABLE` | off | Force query logging off. Wins over the two above. |
| `GRAPHIFY_DEBUG` | off | Print extra diagnostics. |
| `GRAPHIFY_NO_TIPS`, `GRAPHIFY_NO_CTA` | off | Hide tips and the hosted-product message in CLI output. |

Query logging is off unless you turn it on. Graphify Local sends no telemetry.

## See it in action

```bash Separate worktree output theme={"theme":{"light":"github-light-default","dark":"github-dark-default"}}
GRAPHIFY_OUT=graphify-out-feature graphify extract . --code-only
```

```bash CI without model calls theme={"theme":{"light":"github-light-default","dark":"github-dark-default"}}
GRAPHIFY_BACKEND=none GRAPHIFY_NO_TIPS=1 graphify extract . --code-only
```

```bash Commit without a rebuild theme={"theme":{"light":"github-light-default","dark":"github-dark-default"}}
GRAPHIFY_SKIP_HOOK=1 git commit -m "docs: typo"
```

## Verify and troubleshoot

To list every variable your installed version reads:

```bash theme={"theme":{"light":"github-light-default","dark":"github-dark-default"}}
python -c "import graphify, pathlib, re; print('\n'.join(sorted({m for f in pathlib.Path(graphify.__file__).parent.glob('*.py') for m in re.findall(r'GRAPHIFY_[A-Z0-9_]+', f.read_text(encoding='utf-8'))})))"
```

| Symptom | Fix |
| - | - |
| A GUI MCP client ignores a variable | GUI apps don't read your shell profile. Set it in the client's MCP `env` block. |
| `graph.json` fails to load as too large | Raise `GRAPHIFY_MAX_GRAPH_BYTES`, or split the corpus. |
| A paid backend runs when you wanted Ollama | Paid keys win over Ollama during auto-detection. Set `GRAPHIFY_BACKEND=ollama` or pass `--backend ollama`. |
